US Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt visits INTERPIPE STEEL
The US Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt visited Interpipe Steel, the new electric steel-melting complexon XX. The tour of the innovative mill took place as part of the Ambassador’s visit to Dnepropetrovsk,the leading industrial center of the country.
During his visit Ambassador Pyatt met with young metallurgists of the mill. During the meeting he answered employee questions on the perspectives of Ukraine’s developing metal industry and shared his impressions from his tour of Interpipe Steel.
“Having seen Interpipe Steel I am deeply impressed with the mill. This is a unique metallurgical mill, and one of its kind in Ukraine, – US Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt said. – Interpipe Steel is an example of new “green” metallurgy and energy saving technologies. We expect the production facility will have a positive effect on the economic development and energy independence of the country”.
The metallurgists gave thee ambassador a souvenir clock as a keepsake, the dial of which was made out of a steel billet produced by Interpipe Steel.

Interpipe Steelis the first metallurgical facility built in Ukraine from scratch for almost half a century, with total investments of approximately 700 million US dollars. The production capacity of the new mill is 1.32 million tons of round billets a year.
The new facility is a “green” investment by the Interpipe Company. The complete decommissioning of the open hearth production facilities in the 4th quarter of 2012 enabled a 250% reduction in polluting emissions. The construction of this mill has also ensured a reduction in natural gas consumption in the Dnipropetrovsk region by 60 million m3 a year.
Geoffrey Pyatt is the serving US Ambassador to Ukraine, a role he started in August 2013. Ambassador Pyatt is a diplomatic official of the highest level in the US Foreign Service and has 22 years of service with the Department of State. His diplomatic career began in 1990. Before his post in Ukraine, Geoffrey Pyatt’s was working in the US Department of State.
