KLW expands the ULTIMATE product line, entering the car carrier niche market

As the most widespread solution for freight wagons across Europe, KLW’s ULTIMATE line has recently been extended with a niche product.

The new ULT 70 wheelsets, a proprietary KLW design, were delivered to a customer in France earlier this spring and are already in successful operation on vehicle carrier trains.

Frédéric Simonneau, Railway Products Sales Manager for the European market:

- Car carriers require a special kind of wheelset. Due to the tall wagons that accommodate at least two automobiles stacked on top of each other, the bogie must be quite compact. As a result, the required wheel diameter is reduced to 730–760 mm. Following extensive research, our R&D team developed a KLW alternative to the standard design.

ULTIMATE products are widely regarded by European wagon builders and leasing companies as best-in-class in terms of operational performance. The ULT 70 wheelset incorporates all the key features of this line: a low-stress wheel design, enhanced durability, and advanced braking performance. For car carriers, we supplied the 760 mm version, when a 730 mm option is also available upon request.
